UNITED FOR GENDER EQUALITY

UN Geneva has reached gender parity and succeeded in establishing an inclusive and enabling organizational culture free from gender bias and discrimination. UN Geneva’s efforts are implemented through its Policy for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (extended through 2024). The policy is currently being updated and the new policy will be issued by June 2025.

In addition to the System-wide Strategy on Gender Parity adopted in 2017, the Secretary-General adopted in March 2024 a UN System-wide Gender Equality Acceleration Plan which focuses on five bold sets of accelerators namely: a clarion call for gender equality, gender responsive leadership, accountability for gender equality results, resources and action for gender equality everywhere.

@un_valovaya

"As the first female Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and having worked in male-dominated spheres during many years of my career, my ultimate goal is that women and men are granted equal opportunities in my organization and beyond. It is self-evident that we will not achieve any of our goals if half of humanity is left aside."

  • I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.
  • I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.
  • I commit to issue a revision of UNOG’s Policy for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in 2025.
  • UN Geneva is partnering in a series of photo exhibitions “17 faces of action” in different countries to recognize and demonstrate the contribution of women to the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with subsequent large-scale combined event at the Palais des Nations.

UN Geneva SWAP results

Since 2012, the UN System-Wide Policy on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women has served as an accountability framework for gender equality and women’s empowerment across the UN system. It establishes a set of common measures with which to measure progress achieved by UN entities towards gender equality. Each entity reports on its UN-SWAP results annually. UN Geneva has provided reports since 2014. In addition, UN Geneva decided to make the reports public.
