New Permanent Representative of India Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Arindam Bagchi, the new Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Bagchi served for nearly three years as the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, and the head of the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry, in New Delhi. From 2020 to 2021, he headed the Northern Division of the Ministry, and before this, he was based in Zagreb as India’s Ambassador to Croatia from 2018 to 2020.  Prior to these postings, Mr. Bagchi served as the Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka from 2014 to 2018.

Mr. Bagchi worked as a Director in the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi from 2010 to 2014, handling relations with the Americas and Russia, as well the United Nations and various global issues.  His earlier overseas assignments were with the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York and the Indian Embassies in Lima (Peru) and Madrid (Spain). Prior to joining the Indian Foreign Service, he worked as an investment banker in New Delhi and Mumbai for two years.

Mr. Bagchi pursued an undergraduate course in mathematics from Delhi University and a post-graduate course in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He is married with one child.
