تقع الاجتماعات والمؤتمرات في صميم أنشطة مكتب الأمم المتحدة في جنيف. وفيها يلتقي المجتمع الدولي للعمل بشأن المواضيع المحركة لحياتنا، من الصحة إلى حقوق الإنسان ومن المساعدات الإنسانية إلى السلام. وتجتمع الدول الأعضاء للمناقشة والجدال والاتفاق. وتقوم الأمم المتحدة بتدوين هذه الاتفاقات. وستؤثر لاحقاً على القوانين الوطنية وبالتالي على واقع حياة المواطنين في جميع أنحاء العالم.

وفي العام الماضي، عُقدت نسبة 39 في المائة من الاجتماعات مصحوبة بترجمة شفوية، ويترجَم ما بين 70 و80 مليون كلمة في الوثائق الرسمية والمنشورات سنوياً، مما يتيح وصول كثيرين إلى عمل الأمم المتحدة.

وتوفر يومية الأمم المتحدة التي تصدر يومياً عن إدارة شؤون الجمعية العامة والمؤتمرات التابعة للأمم المتحدة جدولاً زمنياً للاجتماعات والمناسبات والجلسات التي تعقد في مكتب الأمم المتحدة في جنيف ومكاتب الأمم المتحدة الأخرى في جميع أنحاء العالم، مع تقديم معلومات عن موعد عقدها ومكانه. وتتضمن روابط إلكترونية للوثائق الرسمية حسب الاجتماع (باللغة الإنكليزية فقط).
