New Permanent Representative of Greece Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Ioannis Ghikas, the new Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Ghikas had been serving as Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece to the European Union since 2020.  He was the Director of the Department for European Integration, European Union Economic and Monetary Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2020, and Deputy Director of the Department for European External Affairs from 2018 to 2019.  He was Head of the Political Section at the Greek Embassy in Ankara, Turkey from 2013 to 2017.  From 2008 to 2013, Mr. Ghikas served at the

Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union as Deputy Representative to the European Union Political and Security Committee and as Deputy Permanent Representative to the Western European Union.

Among various other posts, Mr. Ghikas served at the Political Section of the Embassy of Greece in Paris, France from 2000 to 2003, and Vice-Consul at the General Consulate of Greece in Istanbul, Turkey from 1997 to 2000. 

Mr. Ghikas holds a Bachelor of Arts, Mathematics from John Hopkins University and is married.
