NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF THE INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Crispin Conroy, the new Permanent Observer of the International Chamber of Commerce to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Conroy had been working with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) from June 2009 to November 2018. This included being Consul-General, Italy, and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, Italy and Israel, based in Milan, from November 2016 to November 2018; Consul-General, Colombia, and Senior Trade Commissioner for Latin America, based in Colombia, managing Austrade offices in Chile, Peru and Argentina, from July 2012 to July 2016; and Senior Trade Commissioner for Latin America, based in Chile, leading the Austrade teams in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, from June 2009 to June 2012.

Mr. Conroy worked with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 1989 to 2009. He was Ambassador, Australian Embassy to Chile, concurrently accredited to Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador, from December 2005 to June 2009; Deputy Head of Mission, Australian High Commission, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, from October 2003 to October 2005; Director, Media and Communications, Iraq Task Force, from February 2003 to April 2003; and Ambassador, Australian Embassy to Nepal, from December 1999 to December 2003. He served as a First Secretary/Counsellor, Australian Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva, from September 1995 to July 1998.

Mr. Conroy was born in Cambridge, United Kingdom, on 8 May 1963. He has a Masters in International Law from the Australian National University (2004); Admission to Legal Practice Programme from the Australian National University (1988); and a Bachelor of Arts and Law from the Australian National University (1982-1987).
