NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF INDONESIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Hasan Kleib, the new Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Kleib had been serving as Deputy Minister and Director General for Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta since 2012. He served at the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations in New York from 2007 to 2011, first as Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the Security Council (2007 to 2008), then as Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2009 to 2010), and finally as Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the United Nations (2010 to 2011). He also served in New York from 1992 to 1996 as Third and then Second Secretary for Political Affairs.

A career diplomat, Mr. Kleib joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia in 1987. He has held various posts during his career, including as Head of the Middle East Section at the Ministry (1988 to 1992); Head of the Disarmament Section (1996 to 2000); Head/Counselor of the Political Division at the Embassy of Indonesia in Washington, D.C. (2000 to 2004); and Director for International Security and Disarmament at the Ministry (2004 to 2006).

Mr. Kleib has a degree in international relations from the University of Padjajaran, Bandung, Indonesia (1986) and a Master of Arts in foreign affairs and trade from Monash University, Australia (1998).
