NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF AZERBAIJAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Vaqif Sadiqov, the new Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Sadiqov had been serving as Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy and Permanent Representative to the Rome-based United Nations agencies since 2010. He was also accredited as non-resident Ambassador to Malta and San Marino. From 2004 to 2010, he served as Deputy Foreign Minister. From 1995 to 2004, Mr. Sadiqov was Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Vienna, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. From 1998 to 2004, he also served as Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, and from 2001 to 2004, he was Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Mr. Sadiqov joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. He was head of the political-military affairs division of the Foreign Ministry from 1993 to 1995.

Mr. Sadiqov graduated from the Azerbaijani Institute of Foreign Languages, then obtained his Master degree in linguistics in 1978 and his PhD in linguistics in 1986 from the same Institute. He worked as an Assistant Professor at the Institute until 1991. He was born on 2 November 1956 in Baku and is married with two children.
