NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF IRAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Mohsen Naziri Asl, the new Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Naziri Asl had been serving as the Deputy Director General for political international affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran since 2010. He served as Charge d’affaires of the Embassy of Iran in the Netherlands from 2007 to 2010.

A career diplomat, Mr. Naziri Asl served as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Iranian Mission to the United Nations Office at Vienna from 2004 to 2005, and the First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 1996 to 1999. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and worked as a political expert in the United Nations Division, Disarmament Section, of the Foreign Ministry from 1988 to 1996. He has represented Iran in numerous United Nations and other international and regional meetings.

Mr. Naziri Asl has a B.A. in theology from the Islamic Azad University in Tehran (1989); a B.A. in political relations from the School of International Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1993); an M.A. in international law from Islamic Azad University (1996); an M.A. in diplomacy and international organizations from the School of International Relations (1996); and a PH.D. in international law from the University of Shahid Beheshti (2013).
He was born in Tehran on 11 August 1961 and is married with two children.
