NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GREECE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Alexandros Alexandris, the new Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Alexandris had been serving as Head of the Bureau of Political Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Thrace, Greece since 2008. From 2003 to 2008, he was Greece’s Consul General in Istanbul, Turkey, during which he was also Greece’s Permanent Representative in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization. He was Consul General in Toronto, Canada from 1999 to 2003.

A career diplomat, Mr. Alexandris has held different posts at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including in the Diplomatic Cabinet of the Alternate Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1999, and in the Diplomatic Cabinet of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 1998. Other foreign posts include at the Embassy of Greece in Nicosia, Cyprus from 1992 to 1997.

Mr. Alexandris has a BA in politics and modern history from Royal Holloway College, London University (1975) and a Master in Law of the Minorities and PhD in politics and international relations from King’s College, London University (1980). He was born in Istanbul in 1950 and is married with two children.
