NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Pengiran Kasmirhan bin Pengiran Haji Tahir, the new Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Tahir had been serving as Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic since September 2009. From 2006 and until August 2009, he served as Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Brunei Darussalam. Mr. Tahir served as the Principal Counsel and Head of the International Law Division at the Attorney General’s Chambers from 2002 to May 2006, and as Senior Counsel and Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Chambers from 1991 to 2002.

Mr. Tahir has served as part of the legal team on Brunei Darussalam’s entry to the World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization. He has been involved in preparation of the country’s periodic reviews on Intellectual Property Rights and Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), and to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. He was part of the Brunei Darussalam delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in 1997 and was part of the legal team on the Brunei-Malaysia Land Boundary and Maritime Delimitation Negotiations (1996 to 2009).

Mr. Tahir has an LLB (Bachelor in Law) from De Montfort University in the United Kingdom (1990) and is a qualified Barrister-at-Law. He was born on 16 August 1969 in Brunei and is married with six children.
