NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF AZERBAIJAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Murad Nizami oglu Najafbayli, the new Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei A. Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to coming to Geneva, since August 2004, Mr. Najafbayli had been serving as Head of the Department of International Law and Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is his second posting to Geneva, as, from 2001 to 2004, Mr. Najafbayli was the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva and headed the Azerbaijan delegation to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-eighth and fifty-ninth sessions.
Mr. Najafbayli began his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994, as an attaché in the Department of Asia, Africa and Latin America. Following several promotions, he was the Acting Head of the Department of International Law and Treaties in 2001 before being posted to Geneva for the first time.
Mr. Najafbayli holds a diploma of outstanding performance in law from Russian State Social University (2008), and has a doctorate in political science from the Academy of Public Administration in Azerbaijan (2004). Originally studying to be an economist, Mr. Najafbayli graduated from University of Baku with an economics degree in 1994.
Born on 5 June 1972 in Baku, Mr. Najafbayli is married.
