NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BULGARIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Gancho Ganev, the new Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Ganev had been serving as Head of the Cabinet of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since September 2007. He was the Director of the Europe Directorate for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States at the Ministry from 2006 to 2007. Between 2003 and 2006 he served as Ambassador of Bulgaria to Norway and concurrently to Iceland.

Mr. Ganev began his diplomatic career in 1983, when he entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Expert-Adviser and Attaché for the Department of the Balkan countries. From 1987 to 1990, he was Attaché and Third Secretary at the Bulgarian Embassy to Algeria. Between 1993 and 1998 he was Chargé d’Affaires at the Bulgarian Embassy in Ljubjana, Slovenia. Throughout his career he has held various posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mainly in the Department for South-Eastern Europe.

Mr. Ganev holds a Master of International Law from the Moscow Institute for International Affairs. He was born on 14 September 1956 in Chavdartsi, Lovech District in Bulgaria. He is married with two children.
