NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ROMANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Maria Ciobanu, the new Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Ciobanu had been serving as State Adviser on European Affairs at the Presidency of Romania since 2006. From 2000 to 2006, she was the Head of the Political Section at the Mission of Romania to the European Union in Brussels, and concurrently from 2005 to 2006 was the Representative of Romania to the Political and Security Committee.
In addition to various posts held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Ms. Ciobanu served in Finland as First Secretary in 1999 and in Ireland as Second Secretary in 1996. She worked at the Ministry of Industry from 1992 to 1996. From 1982 to 1992, she worked at two aeronautics companies.
Ms. Ciobanu was born on 12 March 1958 and is married with two children. She has attended a number of international academic and training courses. In 2004, she was decorated with the National Order “Faithful Service” for her contribution to the accession preparation process of Romania to the European Union.
