NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Othman Hashim, the new Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Hashim had been serving as Deputy Secretary General I at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since January 2006. From June 2005 to January 2006, he was Deputy Secretary General III at the Ministry. He served as Ambassador of Malaysia to the Czech Republic from January 2002 to June 2005. He was Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in China from June 1996 to January 2000. He was also posted to Switzerland from May 1998 to November 1991, and to Romania from June 1982 to September 1985.

A career diplomat, Mr. Hashim has held a number of posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Under Secretary for Policy Planning at the Ministry from January 2000 to January 2002, and Principal Assistant Secretary for South East Asia I at the Ministry from November 1991 to May 1996. He was appointed to the Administrative and Diplomatic Service of Malaysia as Assistant Secretary at the Ministry in November 1979.

Mr. Hashim holds a B. Econs. (Hons.) from the University of Malaya, and has received several Malaysian awards. He was born in Perak, Malaysia, on 27 September 1954 and is married with three children.
