NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MOROCCO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Omar Hilale, the new Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Hilale had been serving as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco since 2005. From 2001 to 2005, he served as Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations Office at Geneva. From 1982 to 1991, Mr. Hilale also served at the Mission of Morocco to the United Nations Office at Geneva, first as First Secretary and then as Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission.

A career diplomat, Mr. Hilale was Morocco’s Ambassador to Indonesia, concurrently also Ambassador of Morocco to Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, from 1996 to 2001. He also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Moroccan Embassy in Monrovia from 1979 to 1980; First Secretary at the Moroccan Embassy in Addis Ababa from 1976 to 1979; and Second Secretary at the Moroccan Embassy in Algiers from 1975 to 1976. Mr. Hilale joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco in 1974. In addition to the above mentioned posts, he has also served at the Ministry in Rabat in various capacities.

Mr. Hilale has a Bachelor degree in political sciences from the Mohammed V University in Rabat (1974). He was born in Agadir on 1 January 1951. He is married with three children.
