NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE NETHERLANDS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

The new Ambassador of the Netherlands, Boudewijn J. van Eenennaam, this afternoon presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikdze, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. van Eedennaam was Ambassador of The Netherlands to the United States, a post he took up in 2002. From 1997 to 2001, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, he was Director General for Political Affairs, after being Deputy Director General from 1993 to 1997. From 1990 to 1993, he was Director of the Atlantic Cooperation and Security Affairs Department. During that time, he was also Chairman of an interministerial working party involving the Ministries of General Affairs, Defense and Foreign Affairs, responsible for the coordination of the Netherlands’ contribution to the allied defense effort in the Gulf War.

From 1988 to 1990, Mr. van Eedennaam was Political Advisor to the Netherlands Permanent Representation to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. From 1984 to 1988, he was Counselor for Political Affairs at The Netherlands Embassy in Washington, DC.

From 1973 to 1984, Mr. van Eedennaam worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, where he held responsibility for security matters, military cooperation, nuclear planning, crisis management, and Netherlands policy within NATO and the Western European Union.

Mr. van Eedennaam holds a Degree in Law from the University of Leyden, with a specialization in constitutional law, European law, and international cooperation after the Second World War. He also took a course in international relations in 1973 at the Clingendael Institute for International Affairs in The Hague. In 1988, he took a sabbatical year at the Netherlands Institute for International Affairs at The Hague.

Mr. van Eedennaam was born on 30 December 1946 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
