NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TUNISIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Samir Labidi, the new Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Labidi had been serving as the President of the Commission for External Relations and International Cooperation of the Economic and Social Council of Tunisia since 2000. From 1996 to 2000, he was President of the Commission for Education, Culture and Youth of the Economic and Social Council of Tunisia.

Mr. Labidi, a prominent member of the civil society in Tunisia, has participated in many international conferences. He led the delegation of Tunisia to the eighth and ninth Euro-mediterranean Summits of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions which were held in Malta in 2003 and Spain in 2004. He is the author of many studies on commercial international law, international relations and human rights issues.

The new Permanent Representative of Tunisia has a graduate degree in international law from the Faculty of Law and Political Science of Tunisia. He also studied at the Academy of International Law in The Hague. Born on 8 January 1962 in Gafsa, he is married and has two children.
