DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG MEETS WITH THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE

Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, met today with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
The Director-General highlighted the United Nations’ close cooperation with regional organizations and other multilateral arrangements and noted the valuable contributions that such organizations, including the OIC, make to all areas of the Organization’s work.
The Secretary-General outlined the OIC’s collaboration with members of the Geneva-based family and welcomed the good working relations with the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Exchanging views on the international fight against terrorism, Prof. Ihsanoglu and Mr. Ordzhonikidze agreed on the importance of combating all forms of terrorism because terrorists are common criminals who should not be associated with any particular nationality or religion. In this context, they stressed the importance of dialogue and interaction among peoples of all backgrounds and religions to overcome prejudice and intolerance.
