World No Tobacco Day 2017
On 30 May, on the eve of the annual World No Tobacco Day held every 31 May, WHO, the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) and the United Nations Development Programme will be staging a joint press conference focusing on how tobacco threatens sustainable development in all countries by causing the deaths of over 7 million people annually, sickening many more, exacerbating poverty, and, based on findings from a first-ever report to be released, inflicting great harm on the environment.
At this event, two key documents will be issued:
1. WHO report: Tobacco and its environmental impact
2. Discussion paper: The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control: an accelerator for sustainable development
