New Permanent Observer of League of Arab States Presents Letter of Nomination to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Sami Mohammad Al-Sulaiman, the new Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Al-Sulaiman had been serving as Ambassador of Kuwait to France since 2015, including non-resident Ambassador to Monaco since 2018.  He served as Ambassador of Kuwait to India from 2009 to 2015, including non-resident Ambassador to Nepal from 2013 to 2015.  He was Kuwait’s Ambassador to Sweden from 2005 to 2009, including non-resident Ambassador to Norway from 2006 to 2009, non-resident Ambassador to Iceland from 2006 to 2009, and non-resident Ambassador to Denmark from 2007 to 2009.

A career Kuwaiti diplomat, Mr. Al-Sulaiman served as Deputy Director of the European Department of Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2005.  He also held various positions in Kuwait’s Embassies in Greece, Germany and Türkiye.  He joined Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985.

Mr. Al-Sulaiman completed the Intensive Diplomatic Programme at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Boston (1994-1995).  He has a Bachelor of Arts and Sociology from Kuwait University (1984).  He was born on 20 October 1961 and is married with children.
