New Permanent Observer of International Development Law Organization presents letter of nomination to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Mark Cassayre, the new Permanent Observer of the International Development Law Organization to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Before his appointment to his new post, Mr. Cassayre had been serving as Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Office at Geneva since 2018. He served as Office Director, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, Bureau of International Organizations, United States Department of State from 2017 to 2018, and as Senior Advisor, School of Language Studies, Foreign Service Institute, United States Department of State from 2016 to 2017.

A career United States Foreign Service diplomat, Mr. Cassayre served as a Political Counsellor at the United States Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2008 to 2011. He served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique (2013 to 2016); Political Section Chief at the United States Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia (2005 to 2008); Political Officer and Vice Consul at the United States Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine (2001 to 2003); and Political Officer at the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya (1998 to 2000).

Mr. Cassayre has a Master of Arts in international relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland (1987). He also has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California Santa Barbara (1994) and a Bachelor of Arts in French Literature from the same University (1994).
