New Permanent Representative of United Arab Emirates presents credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Ahmed Aljarman, the new Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Aljarman had been serving as Assistant Minister for Human Rights and International Law of the United Arab Emirates since 2017, after serving as Assistant Minister for Political Affairs from 2013 to 2017. He was the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 2007 to 2013.
A career diplomat, Mr. Aljarman joined the diplomatic and consular corps of the United Arab Emirates in 1975. He served at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Algeria from 1976 to 1982, and at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in France from 1987 to 1993. He has held various other posts in his country, including serving as Assistant Undersecretary for Specialised Affairs from 2004 to 2007, and Director of the Legal Affairs Department and the Media, Studies and Research Affairs Department from 2001 to 2004.
Mr. Aljarman was born on 10 October 1950 in Ajman, United Arab Emirates. He has a Bachelor of Law from Cairo University in Egypt (1979) and a postgraduate diploma in law studies from the University of Algeria, Algeria. He is married with three children.
