NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LUXEMBOURG PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Jean-Marc Hoscheit, the new Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Hoscheit was Ambassador of Luxembourg to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons since 2008. Concurrently, since 2010, he was accredited as Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the African Union, and Special Envoy of Luxembourg to Africa, with residence in The Hague; and since 2011, he was Ambassador of Luxembourg to Ethiopia, with residence in The Hague. From 2003 to 2008, Mr. Hoscheit was Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the United Nations in New York, during which period he was elected Vice President of the General Assembly’s fifty-eighth session; President of the Council of the European Union in New York (2005); Coordinator of humanitarian resolutions at the General Assembly (2003 to 2007); Member of the Commission for the Consolidation of Peace (2007 to 2008); and Vice President of the Economic and Social Council (2008).

A career diplomat, Mr. Hoscheit was Ambassador of Luxembourg to France from 1998 to 2003 and Deputy Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the European Union in Brussels from 1989 to 1998.

Mr. Hoscheit has a degree in law and a degree in political sciences from the University of Strasbourg in France. He has numerous publications on European political and institutional questions as well as on the diplomatic history of Luxembourg. He was born on 11 October 1958 and is married with two children.
