NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THAILAND PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Pisanu Chanvitan, the new Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Chanvitan had been serving as Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in 2011. He served as Ambassador of Thailand to Viet Nam from 2009 to 2011, and as Ambassador to Pakistan from 2004 to 2007. Other foreign postings include him serving as Consul-General at the Thai Consulate General in New York from 2003 to 2004; Vice Consul and then Consul-General at the Thai Consulate General in Savannakhet, Lao People’s Democratic Republic from 2000 to 2003; First Secretary and then Counsellor at the Thai Embassy in Brussels from 1991 to 1995; and Second Secretary at the Thai Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq from 1986 to 1987.

A career diplomat, Mr. Chanvitan joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in 1982 and has held numerous positions at the Ministry in Bangkok.

Mr. Chanvitan was born on 3 August 1955. He has a B.A. in Arts and English Language from Chiang Mal University in Chiang Mal, Thailand, and an M.S. in Political Science from Emporia State University in Kansas, United States. He is married.
