NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NICARAGUA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Carlos Robelo Raffone, the new Permanent Representative of Nicaragua to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, since May 2007, Mr. Robelo Raffone had been serving as the Deputy Permanent Representative of Nicaragua to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

From 2005 to 2006, Mr. Robelo Raffone oversaw projects for Al-Invest, a European Commission initiative to support the internationalisation of small and medium enterprises in Latin America. From 2003 to 2005, he worked a coordinator on twinning projects for the European Commission – an initiative to assist candidate countries in acquiring the independent capacity to adopt, implement and enforce the full acquis communautaire before accession to the European Union – for the delegation of the European Commission in Malta. Mr. Robelo Raffone has also worked, among others, for Transtec International, an international consulting firm based in Brussels (2001-2004), and for the Italian Agency for International Cooperation, where he was the Deputy Director for economic and political affairs from 1996 to 2000. During 1995 and 1996, Mr. Robelo Raffone was a member of the political party "Arriba Nicaragua", and was a member of the campaign team for its presidential candidate during the 1996 elections.

Mr. Robelo Raffone received his doctorate degree in international relations from the Sapienza University of Rome. He speaks Spanish, Italian, English and French.

Born on 19 November 1972, Mr. Robelo Raffone is married with one daughter.
