NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TANZANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG
Matern Yakobo Christian Lumbanga, the new Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Lumbanga had been an Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation since January 2006. From 1995 to 2006, he was the Chief Secretary at the President’s Office – i.e. Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet.
Mr. Lumbanga served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development from 1992 to 1995; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade from 1991 to 1992; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1990 to 1991; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Natural Resources and Tourism from 1989 to 1990, and Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry from 1987 to 1989.
A trained economist, Mr. Lumbanga served in a variety of Government posts after joining the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs in 1972, shortly after obtaining his BA in economics, management and administration from the University of Dar es Salaam.
Born on 5 May, 1947 in Mchombe in Kilombero District of Morogoro Region of Tanzania, Mr. Lumbanga is married with five children.
