NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CZECH REPUBLIC PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Tomas Husak, the new Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Husak had been serving as Director General of the Trade, Cultural and Communication Policy Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic since 2004. He was the Director of the Bilateral Trade Department of the Ministry in 2002 and 2003.

Mr. Husak’s foreign assignments include serving as Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Sweden from 1998 to 2002. He also served in the Commercial Section in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1981 to 1989, including as Deputy Chief of Mission from 1985 to 1989. The Commercial Section in Bangkok was part of the Czechoslovak Embassy to Burma at the time.

Mr. Husak also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Trade from 1990 to 1993, first as a Desk Officer of the Asian Department and then as the Director of the Department. He worked as the Director-General of the Foreign Trade Section of the Ministry of Industry and Trade from 1993 to 1996.

During his career, Mr. Husak has cooperated with the Prague School of Economics and Technical University Suchdol, published in economic magazines and the press and lectured in European, African and Asian countries.

Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1949, Mr. Husak graduated from the Technical University of Liberec in 1975. He is married with two children.
