NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UKRAINE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Yevhen Bersheda, the new Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Bersheda had been serving as a Special Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine since 2003. From 2000 to 2003, he was Ukraine’s Ambassador to Switzerland.

Mr. Bersheda was First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine from 1998 to 2000. He was the First Assistant to the Secretary of the National Security Council from 1996 to 1998, and was the Head of the National Security Council’s Department for Strategic Planning and National Security Policy Coordination from 1994 to 1996.

From 1993 to 1994, Mr. Bersheda was Assistant to the President on scientific issues. From 1985 to 1992, he was Deputy Head of the Council for studying the labour force at the National Academy of Sciences. From 1967 to 1985, he worked at the Institute of Economy of the National Academy of Sciences.

Mr. Bersheda graduated in 1967 from the Kiev National Economic Institute. In 1983, he obtained a Doctorate in Economic Sciences. He is the author of about 140 publications on investment and scientific and technological policy, and economic and political forecast.

Mr. Bersheda was born on 3 September 1945 in Kiev, and is married.
