NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF INDIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Swashpawan Singh, the new Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Singh was Ambassador of India to Kuwait from January 2002 to October 2005. He has, over the course of 31 years as a diplomat, held a wide range of appointments in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, and in Indian Embassies in Kabul, Washington DC, Cairo and Houston. He has also served in the Ministry of Defence. He has wide experience in bilateral and multilateral negotiations.

Before joining the diplomatic service, Mr. Singh worked in a private corporation and taught at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. He has a Masters Degree in English Literature from Delhi University, an M.Phil (Defence Studies) and has attended the National Defence College in India. He has a Certificate in Diplomacy from Oxford University.

Mr. Singh was born on 29 December, 1948, in Kolkapa, India. He is married and has one son.
