NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ANGOLA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNOG

Presentation of Credentials

Arcanjo Maria do Nascimento, the new Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. do Nascimento had been serving as Office Director for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola since 2001. From 2000 to 2001, he served as an advisor to the Minister for political affairs.

Mr. do Nascimento served as the First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Angola to United Nations Headquarters in New York, responsible for legal matters, policy and the media, from 1993 to 2000.

After joining the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986, Mr. do Nascimento worked as a Diplomatic Attache and an official in the Organization of International Organizations, responsible for social, cultural and humanitarian affairs. Before joining the Ministry, Mr. do Nascimento worked as a journalist for the Angolan Press Agency "Agencia Angola Press" and a professor, teaching general history and geography.

Mr. do Nascimento has represented Angola in many United Nations, international and African conferences and meetings. He has a degree in law from "Universidade Agostinho Neto" in Luanda (1983 to 1988). He has also attended a number of training courses, including in international relations from Essex University in the United Kingdom (1989); in human rights from the Rene Cassin Institute in Strasbourg, France (1991): and in international business from the Public Administration Institute in Paris, France (2000).

Born on 18 June 1963, Mr. do Nascimento is married.
