LE GROUPE D'EXPERTS CHARGÉ DE FAIRE DES RECOMMANDATIONS SUR UNE INTERDICTION DES MATIÈRES FISSILES À DES FINS MILITAIRES SE RÉUNIT À GENÈVE (en anglais)

GENEVA - The United Nations Group of Governmental Experts, which has been tasked to make recommendations on possible aspects that could contribute to but not negotiate a treaty banning the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices, will meet for the first time from 31 March to 11 April in Geneva.

The Group, which was established by General Assembly resolution 67/53 of 3 December 2012, is tasked to make recommendations on aspects that could contribute to a treaty banning the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices, on the basis of document CD/1299 and the mandate contained therein. Conducting its work on the basis of consensus, the Group will meet from 31 March to 11 April 2014 and from 11 to 22 August 2014. Two more sessions of two weeks each are scheduled to take place in 2015.

Twenty-five States were invited by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to participate in the Group, on the basis of the principle of equitable geographical representation: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, South Africa, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States.
