New Permanent Representative of Egypt Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Alaa Mohamed Salaheldin Hegazy, the new Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Hegazy had been serving as Assistant Foreign Minister and Chief of the Minister’s Cabinet since July 2022. From 2021 to 2022, he was Assistant Foreign Minister for diplomatic, counsellor and supervision affairs. He served as Egypt’s Ambassador to Sweden from 2018 to 2021. From 2015 to 2018, he was Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was posted at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington DC from 2011 to 2015, first as Minister Plenipotentiary, and then as Deputy Chief of Mission from 2014 to 2015.
A career diplomat, Mr. Hegazy served at the Egyptian Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva as First Secretary from 2003 to 2007. He has held various other posts, including as Third Secretary at the Egyptian Embassy in Beijing from 1996 to 2000.
Mr. Hegazy has a master’s degree in international political economy from Warwick University in the United Kingdom. He also has an LLB law degree from Cairo University and a bachelor of science degree in economics from the same University. He was born in 1970 and is married with two children.
