New Permanent Representative of Israel Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Daniel Martin Meron, the new Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Meron served in Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Deputy Director General for European Affairs from 2022 to 2024. He was the Special Envoy for Global Health in 2021, and held the position of Ambassador of Israel to the Czech Republic from 2017 to 2021.
Mr. Meron held a plethora of roles within Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout his career, including as Head of the United Nations and International Organizations Bureau from 2012 to 2017; Coordinator for Sustainable Development from 2011 to 2012; and Director of the Department of Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs from 2003 to 2007, among others.
He served as Minister for Congressional Affairs at the Embassy of Israel to the United States from 2007 to 2011 and as Counsellor from 2000 to 2003. He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel to Norway from 1993 to 1995; as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel to Cyprus from 1990 to 1993; and as Diplomatic Cadet at the Embassy of Israel to Venezuela in 1989.
Mr. Meron holds a Doctor Honoris Causa in security management from the Czech Police Academy in Prague (2018); a Master of Laws in international law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2006); and a Bachelor of Laws from Bar Illan University in Israel (1986). He is also a Graduate of the Senior Executive Seminar, National Defense University in Washington D.C (2012), and of the Diplomatic Cadet Course at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1987–1989).
