GROUP OF GOVERNMENTAL EXPERTS TO CONSIDER THE ROLE OF VERIFICATION IN ADVANCING NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT BEGINS ITS WORK IN GENEVA

The Group of Governmental Experts to consider the role of verification in advancing nuclear disarmament began its work today at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

“Advancing nuclear disarmament verification is an essential foundation to achieve and maintain a world without nuclear weapons. Despite different views on various parts of the disarmament agenda, verification is an area which should bring us together,” said the Chair of the Group, Mr. Knut Langeland of Norway.

The Group, which will meet over a period of three weeks in 2018 and 2019, is composed of 25 experts from the following countries: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Russian Federation, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and United States of America.
