16.01.31 - Statement Attributable to the Spokeswoman of the Special Envoy for Syria

The U.N. Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, paid a courtesy visit today to the delegation of the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) at their hotel in Geneva following their arrival last night. The short informal meeting was useful in addressing issues relating to the Intra-Syrian talks.
Separately, the U.N. Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, paid a courtesy visit to the hotel of the delegation of the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic to discuss practical arrangements related to the next steps in the Intra-Syrian talks.
As indicated previously by Mr. de Mistura, these Intra-Syrian talks will be proximity talks, meaning that in the first instance, the parties will be meeting with him separately.

قام المبعوث الخاص للأمم المتحدة الى سوريا، السيد ستيفان دي ميستورا، بزيارة "مجاملة" اليوم لوفد هيئة المفاوضات العليا (HNC) في فندق بجنيف عقب وصولهم الليلة الماضية. وكان الاجتماع غير الرسمي بهدف معالجة القضايا الخاصة بالمحادثات بين الأطراف السورية.
وبشكل منفصل، قام نائب المبعوث الخاص للأمم المتحدة الي سوريا، السيد رمزي عز الدين رمزي، بزيارة "مجاملة" إلى الفندق حيث يقيم وفد حكومة الجمهورية العربية السورية لمناقشة الترتيبات العملية والخطوات التالية للمحادثات السورية.
وكما أعلن سابقا من قبل السيد دي مستورا، فإن هذه المحادثات السورية-السورية ستكون لقاءات غير مباشرة، وهذا يعني أنه سيجتمع مع الأطراف كلا على حدة في المرحلة الأولية.
