STATEMENT BY THE UNITED NATIONS COMPENSATION COMMISSION

It has come to the attention of the secretariat of the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) that, for reasons unknown to the UNCC, the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) has made available to the Independent Inquiry Committee (IIC) internal audit reports on the UNCC dated between 1997 and 2005. The UNCC understands that the IIC will be making these documents available on its website on 10 January 2005. It is the UNCC’s further understanding that OIOS only made available to the IIC its audit reports and not the UNCC’s responses thereto.
In order to provide a full picture of the audits in question, the UNCC is making its responses, together with the relevant OIOS audit reports, available on its own website. The UNCC is also making available on its website the opinion of the Legal Counsel of the United Nations, dated 29 November 2002, concerning the proper scope of OIOS audit of the UNCC, to which a number of the posted documents make reference.
