New WHO estimates on mental disorders in conflict-affected areas

Release of new estimates of the prevalence of mental disorders in conflict settings, published in The Lancet. The study suggests that rates of mental disorders in areas affected by conflict are substantially higher than in the general population. The study, which updates estimates that are more than a decade old, also concludes that previous numbers for mental health conditions in conflict settings were underestimated.

World No Tobacco Day 2019
On World No Tobacco Day 2019 (31 May), WHO is focusing on the strong connection between tobacco use as a major cause of lung disease, like chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, lung cancer and tuberculosis. Tobacco-related lung disease accounts for the deaths of over 40% of people who die as a result of tobacco.
