Today, the Director-General met with Mr. Ahmet Üzümcü, the Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Among issues discussed were the positive impact of the Chemical Weapons Convention, as well as initiatives being taken to resolve the current differences in the Conference on Disarmament so that it may resume its substantive work. The Director-General also thanked Mr. Üzümcü for the initiative to host a Conference on International Cooperation and Chemical Safety and Security on 12 and 13 September 2011 during the International Year of Chemistry.
