Press Conference Announcement
New WHO estimates on mental disorders in conflict-affected areas
Embargoed until: 12 June 00:30 Geneva time
Release of new estimates of the prevalence of mental disorders in conflict settings, published in The Lancet. The study suggests that rates of mental disorders in areas affected by conflict are substantially higher than in the general population. The study, which updates estimates that are more than a decade old, also concludes that previous numbers for mental health conditions in conflict settings were underestimated.
