Every day more than 200 women die due to severe bleeding during and after childbirth.
In the lead-up to World Blood Donor Day – 14 June – the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on countries to improve access to safe blood for mothers.
At this briefing, WHO experts will discuss what countries are doing, and what is needed, to ensure safe blood supplies are available for transfusion in obstetric emergencies.
