New Permanent Representative of Peru Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva
Luis Juan Chuquihuara Chil, the new Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Mr. Chuquihuara Chil served as Ambassador of Peru to the Holy See from 2024 to 2025. He held the position of Permanent Representative of Peru in Geneva from 2021 to 2024. Concurrently, he was Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office at Nairobi, the United Nations Environment Programme, and UN-HABITAT, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Mr. Chuquihuara Chil served as Permanent Representative of Peru to the Organization of American States in 2016. He was the Permanent Representative of Peru to the European Union from 2005 to 2007, during which he concurrently served as Ambassador of Peru to Belgium and to Luxembourg. He was Peru’s Ambassador to El Salvador and to Belize from 2008 to 2010, and Ambassador to Switzerland and to Liechtenstein from 2013 to 2016. He was Consul General of Peru in London from 1996 to 2001, and in Chicago from 2017 to 2018. He also served as Resident Representative of Peru to the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum) from 2013 to 2016, and from 2021 to 2024; and to the Central American Integration System from 2008 to 2010.
In Peru, Mr. Chuquihuara Chil held several government positions, including Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic from 2003 to 2005 and from 2011 to 2012; Deputy Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic in 2002; Presidential Advisor on External Management of the State in 2001; Chief of the Cabinet of Advisors of the Presidency of the Judiciary and its representative before the National Agreement in 2010; International Advisor at the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs in 2010; Member of the Government Transfer Commission in 2001 and 2011; and Political Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1991 and 1992.
Mr. Chuquihuara Chil received postgraduate degrees in public management from the International Institute of Public Administration in France (1989) and in political science from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris (1986). He has a degree in international relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru (1979), with legal training at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (1976), and an undergraduate degree in literature from the same University (1972). He has received a number of decorations.
