New Permanent Representative of Paraguay Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Mario Raúl Cano Ricciardi, the new Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Since October 2022, Mr. Cano Ricciardi has been serving as Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the World Trade Organization and other international economic organizations in Geneva. He has also served in Paraguay’s Embassy to Uruguay from 2015 to 2016, in Paraguay’s Mission to the Latin American Integration Association and the Southern Common Market in Uruguay from 2010 to 2015, and in Paraguay’s Embassy to Canada from 1995 to 2002, including as Chargé d’Affaires from 1995 to 1997. 

He has also held a number of other posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration from 2020 to 2022, General Director for Economic Policy from 2019 to 2020, Director of the Trade Negotiations Division from 2018 to 2019, and Director of the Economic Integration Division from 2016 to 2018.  At the Ministry of Industry and Trade, he was Trade Vice Minister is 2006 and Industry Vice Minister in 2005. 

Mr. Cano Ricciardi has a Master of Business Administration majoring in international finance from the University of Ottawa in Canada (1997-2000) and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Catholic University in Asuncion (1984-1989). He is married with two children.
