New Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States Presents Letter of Nomination to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Presentation of Credentials

Hichem Bayoudh, the new Permanent Observer of the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his letter of nomination to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Bayoudh, a career Tunisian diplomat, had been serving as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Migration and Tunisians Abroad since 2019, a position he also held from 2011 to 2013. He has held various other positions within Tunisia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Consular Affairs Director-General (2010-2011), and Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs (2005-2006).

Mr. Bayoudh served as Ambassador of Tunisia to Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, with residence in Buenos Aires, from 2014 to 2019, and Ambassador to Kuwait from 2006 to 2009.

Mr. Bayoudh was awarded the Order of San Martín, the highest decoration in Argentina, for his service to the State.  He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the South America International Educational University.  He graduated from the Tunisian National School of Public Administration as a Public Affairs Advisor, the Tunisian Institute of National Defence (2006), and the Institute of Higher Administrative Leadership in Tunisia (2012). He also obtained certifications of his English and Spanish language ability.  Born on 21 January 1961, he is married with two children.
