New Permanent Representative of Albania Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Vasilika Hysi, the new Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Hysi had been serving as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Albania from 2017 to 2021.  She has held several other roles within the Assembly, including as Chair of the Human Rights Sub-Committee from 2013 to 2021; Chair of the Legal Issues, Public Administration and Human Rights Committee in 2016; Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Group “Friends of Children’’ from 2013 to 2021; and Secretary of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Reform of the Justice System from 2014 to 2016. 

Ms. Hysi had also been working part-time as a lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law of Albania’s University of Tirana from 2009 until July 2023, having worked full-time in the same position from 1985 to 2009.  She also contributed to the University as a member of its Senate from 1998 to 2007; as Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1998 to 2000; and as Head of the Criminal Law Department from 1993 to 1998.  Further, she lectured part-time on criminology at the School of Magistrates in Albania from 2002 to 2015.  Additionally, she was Executive Director of the non-profit Albanian Helsinki Committee from 2000 to 2009.

Ms. Hysi graduated as a lawyer from the Faculty of Political and Juridical Sciences of the University of Tirana in 1985 and received a Doctorate in Juridical Sciences from the University in 1992.  Born on 13 January 1963, she is married with one child.
