NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BAHAMAS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Presentation of Credentials

Keva Lorraine Bain, the new Permanent Representative of the Bahamas to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Bain had been serving as the Legal Advisor and Acting Director of Trade and Industry in the Ministry of Financial Services of the Bahamas since 2012. In 2011, she was the Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, a member of The Bahamas Trade Commission, and a member of the Inter-Ministry Committee on Trafficking in Persons.

From 2009 to 2010, Ms. Bain was the Acting Deputy Registrar in the Court of Appeal of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and an Adviser at the Omega College in Nassau, the Bahamas. She served as a Corporate Secretary and Compliance Manager with the Finance Corporation of Bahamas Limited from 2002 to 2008 and as a Counsel and later Senior and Chief Counsel in the office of the Attorney-General of the Bahamas from 1996 to 2002.

Ms. Bain joined her country’s foreign service in 1987, serving first as an Attaché in the Bahamas High Commission in London from 1987 to 1988, as the Vice Consul in the Bahamas Consulate General in New York from 1988 to 1989, and finally as the Vice Consul in the Permanent Mission of the Bahamas to the United Nations in New York from 1989 to 1990.

Ms. Bain holds a LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, a LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom, and a BA in Political Science and Economics from McGill University in Canada. She also holds a degree in history and English literature from the College of the Bahamas and had completed a bar vocational course at the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom.
