NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ESTONIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Presentation of Credentials
Katrin Saarsalu-Layachi, the new Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Saarsalu-Layachi had been serving as Head of the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia from November 2009 to July 2019. She was Estonia’s Ambassador to Austria from October 2003 to October 2009, including serving as non-resident Ambassador to Slovakia, Switzerland and Slovenia.
Ms. Saarsalu-Layachi was the Head of the European Integration Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from March 1999 to September 2003, and Counsellor at the Estonian Mission to the European Union in Brussels from February 1996 to March 1999. She joined the Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 1991 and worked there until February 1996.
Ms. Saarsalu-Layachi was born in Tallinn, Estonia on 10 January 1967. She has a Master of Advanced European Studies from the Europainstitut, Universitat Basel (1993-1994), and a degree in law from the Faculty of Law, University of Tartu, Estonia (1985-1990). She has also undertaken diplomatic studies.
