NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CHINA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Yu Jianhua, the new Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Yu had been serving as Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative in 2017. Between 2013 and 2017, he was Permanent Representative of China to the World Trade Organization and Alternative Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Mr. Yu held several positions at the Ministry of Commerce, including that of Assistant Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative from 2010 until 2013, Director-General of the Department of International Economic and Trade Affairs between 2006 and 2010, and Deputy Director-General of the Department of the World Trade Organization Affairs from 2001 until 2006.

Between 1995 and 2001, Mr. Yu headed the Department of European Affairs and the Department of International Economic and Trade Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, which he first joined in 1991. He also served as Third and Second Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Belgium from 1992 and 1995.

He holds a degree from the Teachers Training College of Yancheng, China, a postgraduate degree in international relations from the China Foreign Affairs University, and a master’s degree in law and business administration. He was born in Yancheng, China, in December 1961.
