NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GHANA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Ramses Joseph Cleland, the new Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Cleland had been serving as acting Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ghana in Lome, Togo in 2016 and 2017. He served as Director of the Europe Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana from 2013 to 2016. Between 2009 and 2012, he served as Head of the Political Section at the Ghana High Commission in London. He opened Ghana’s Embassy in Dublin, Ireland and served there in 2008 and 2009 as Charge D’Affaires.

A career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in 1989, Mr. Cleland served at the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire as Head of Chancery from 2003 to 2006; at the Embassy of Ghana in Brasilia, Brazil as Counsellor from 2002 to 2003; and at the Embassy of Ghana in Paris, France as Head of Chancery and Counsellor for Political and Economic Affairs from 1996 to 2000. He has held many other posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including in 2007 to 2008 as a Research Assistant at the office of the then Chairman of the African Union Commission, President J.A. Kufuor, President of Ghana.

Mr. Cleland has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London and BBP School of Law in London (2012-2013). He was born on 25 August 1963 in Cairo, Egypt. He is married with four children.
