NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PERU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
Claudio De la Puente Ribeyro, the new Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. De la Puente Ribeyro had been serving as Ambassador of Peru to the United Kingdom since 2015. He was Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2015, and Director-General for the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2014. He also served as Ambassador of Peru to Australia from 2005 to 2010.
A career diplomat since 1978, Mr. De la Puente Ribeyro has served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Peru in Washington D.C., United States from 1999 to 2001; Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Peru in Bogota, Colombia from 1997 to 1999; Counsellor at the Embassy of Peru in Belgium, to the Mission of the European Union, and Head of the Peruvian Trade Office in Brussels from 1990 to 1994; and Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Peru in Copenhagen, Denmark from 1985 to 1986. He has also held several posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima.
Mr. De la Puente Ribeyro has received a number of Peruvian awards, most recently the Order Jose Gregorio Paz Soldan-Diplomatic Service, Peru in 2014. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University and San Martin de Porres University in Lima (1980). He was born on 30 April 1955 in Cuzco, Peru, and is married with one daughter and two sons.
