NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PAKISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA

Farukh Amil, the new Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Michael Møller, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Amil had been serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan since December 2012. In 2012, he worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as Director-General of the Chemical Weapons Convention National Authority/Disarmament, and in 2010 and 2011, he was Additional Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Presidency.

Mr. Amil served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations in New York from 2006 to 2009, and as Political Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington from 2002 to 2006. Other diplomatic assignments in Pakistani Missions abroad including serving as Second Secretary in Cairo, Egypt from 1992 to 1995; and as First Secretary in Ankara, Turkey from 1995 to 1999.

Mr. Amil has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography from the University of Manchester; a Master of Science in Transportation Planning and Management from PLC/University of Westminister, London; and a Master in Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher School, United States, where he also completed the PhD Comprehensive Examinations. He has also undertaken the National Security War Course at the National Defence University in Islamabad.
